Core Florida Auto Coverages | ArmorSafe Insurance

Lots of people have car insurance but don't actually know what it covers or what to do if they get into an accident.

We'll cut through the confusion. Discover the basic types of car insurance so you can confidently get the coverage that's right for you.

  • Personal Injury Protection (PIP) – Required by Florida law, PIP pays for your medical bills and lost wages up to $10,000, regardless of who caused the accident. PIP coverage also helps your passengers and certain household members injured in your vehicle.
  • Property Damage Liability (PDL) – Also required by law, this covers damage you cause to another person’s vehicle or property. The minimum limit is $10,000, but most drivers choose higher limits for better protection.
  • Bodily Injury Liability (BIL) – While not always mandatory, this critical coverage pays for injuries you cause to others in an accident. It also provides legal defense if you’re sued. Many carriers and lenders require it.
  • Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) – Protects you and your passengers if you’re hit by a driver with no insurance or too little insurance. With nearly 1 in 5 Florida drivers uninsured, this coverage is highly recommended.
  • Collision Coverage – Covers repairs to your vehicle if it’s damaged in a crash or rollover, regardless of fault. This coverage is typically required if your vehicle is financed or leased.
  • Comprehensive Coverage – Pays for non-collision losses such as theft, vandalism, fire, hail, falling objects, or hitting an animal. If you lease or finance your vehicle, this is also required.
  • Medical Payments (MedPay) – Supplements your PIP coverage by paying for medical expenses exceeding your PIP limit or the 20% PIP copay. This coverage is optional but provides valuable extra protection.
  • Roadside Assistance – Covers services such as towing, jump-starts, flat tire changes, and lockouts. Ideal for everyday drivers and Florida travelers.
  • Rental Reimbursement – Helps pay for a rental car while your vehicle is being repaired after a covered loss. Especially helpful if your vehicle is your only means of transportation.
  • Custom Equipment Coverage – Extends your policy to cover aftermarket parts, wheels, sound systems, or lift kits not installed by the manufacturer. Without this coverage, those upgrades aren’t protected after a loss.
